The Chinese School was established in 1926 by a group of Foochow businessmen at Craig Road near Tanjong Pagar.

The school was closed three years later and reopened in 1946 at two different places: 20, Craig Road and 64, Queen Street. San Shan School (三山学校) moved to a new premises at 107A, Sophia Road in 1946 and became a fully Government aided school in 1957.

In 1982, the school became a fully Government school and moved to the brand new premises in Toa Payoh North Road as San Shan Primary School.

The new premises was officially declared open by Mr. Michael Liew Kok Pun, Member of Parliament for Boon Teck, on 26 October 1984.

In January 2002, the school merged with Braddell Primary School, First Toa Payoh Primary School and Westlake Primary School to form the new First Toa Payoh Primary School at the new premises at 7, Lorong 8 Toa Payoh.

Mr. Lee Lam Hua (1992-1995); and
